Groundwater Relief is looking to recruit a volunteer with basic manufacturing skills, particularly soldering and using a heat gun, to spend a few hours a month helping us to make ‘Pocket Dippers’ - affordable devices used for measuring groundwater levels in water-stressed countries.
About us:
Groundwater Relief is a UK charity who provide affordable, international groundwater expertise, including working to help vulnerable communities develop and manage their water resources.
In many of the places we work there is a significant lack of information about groundwater levels, and gathering and recording this information is time-consuming and expensive. To combat this, Groundwater Relief have developed the Pocket Dipper: a portable, affordable device for measuring groundwater levels.
And we need your help!
All of our Pocket Dippers are built in-house by Groundwater Relief, and we are looking for a new volunteer to build Pocket Dippers at our office on the Dartington Estate.
The amount of time you give can be flexible, although we would suggest a minimum of 2-4 hours a month to make it worth-while. Equipment and instructions, (as well as biscuits and hot drinks!), will be provided.
The future of the Pocket Dipper: Redesigning the device
In addition, the Pocket Dipper has now been in use around the world for four years, and we have already started work on an updated version of the design. So there is also the potential to help develop the next generation of the Pocket Dipper, should that be of interest.
Please get in touch if you would like to explore this opportunity – we’d love to hear from you!
