The Five Transformations, or Five Elements, is a system which shows us how to find balance in ourselves, in our relationships and with the world around us. It can teach us where we are stuck and what is needed to restore flow. The literal translation of the Chinese expression is ‘the Five Walkings’, this signifies that we are concerned with the characteristic movement of different qualities of Ki (vital energy) in our body, mind, and spirit.
The Five Elements are Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Tree (often referred to as Wood) and our use of them in practice deals with the relationship between the elements themselves. These elements are believed to be the fundamental components of the universe and are associated with different aspects of nature and human life.
Water
In this third session, we will delve into the Element of Water and its related Bladder and Kidney organs. We will look at the meridian pathways they take through the body and how they affect us mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Water represents the deepest and the most still aspects of ourselves, which in the winter months need to be replenished. We will investigate how imbalances show up - weak bones, dizziness, prostate or bladder issues, achy feet, sleep issues, or dark under the eyes, and how to address these common problems.
The Five Elements are a series of workshops run by the Woods for Wellness project in partnership with Wild Light - Shiatsu School.
Woods for Wellness is a project which aims to create subsidised ‘woodland wellbeing services’, intertwining the natural healing environment of the woods with professional therapeutic guidance.
Wild Light is a training center dedicated to the practice of reconnection - to self, other, and planet. The work draws upon the practices of Shiatsu, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yoga, and Zen meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. It offers courses, retreats, and shiatsu practitioner training, as well as a weekly Shiatsu clinic on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. They aim to shine light on all parts of your being so that you can live more fully!
