We get by with a little help from our friends…

Every single one of our volunteers helps us provide outstanding care and support to the community of North Devon who are impacted by a life limiting illness. We really value the time all our volunteers give to us and you will be making a real difference to our patients and their families at their most vulnerable time.

Do you have experience in supporting people through challenging and emotional times?
Do you have excellent listening skills and are you able to offer empathy and a non-judgemental approach when with people you meet?
Would you feel comfortable supporting people facing dying, death and bereavement?
Perhaps you are a second year student completing the Level 4 or level 5 course in Counselling and Psychotherapy, looking for placement hours
Or perhaps you are a practicing Counsellor interested in bringing your experience to a voluntary role.

Would you like to join our Supportive Care Team and work with patients with a palliative prognosis and those who are close to them. Using a variety of skills and therapies we offer a space to talk and explore things that may help with emotional and physical wellbeing. The team offer counselling, complementary therapies and creative activities, delivered one-to-one or in groups. These sessions support and nurture people through challenging times. We work across North Devon and deliver support at both the main hospice in Barnstaple and our outreach centre, The Long House, in Holsworthy. We are particularly looking to recruit to our Holsworthy team at this time.
We ask for a commitment of a minimum of 4 hours per week, (In Holsworthy this would ideally be on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, although this can be negotiated.)  In return, for those working one-to-one with clients, we provide a two-hour Group Supervision session every month. These are on a Friday and you would need to be able to attend.

If you would like to find out more, please contact Jo Palmer on 01271 347225
