Come along to Quince Honey Farm for a special evening full of learning where you will delve into natural history and discover the delights of both hedgehogs and hawks, with Stephen Powles and Nigel Penfold.
“Hedgehogs – in need of your help and getting connected” by Stephen Powles
The UK hedgehog population has suffered a dramatic decline over the last 10 years. Critical to hedgehog conservation in urban environments is their ability to move through a wider landscape. Stephen will describe how you can make your garden hedgehog friendly. He will then show how his brother, Chris, inspired the villagers of Kirtlington to take an interest in their hedgehogs and how they went on to create a “Hedgehog Superhighway” of interconnected gardens.
“Falconry in Art and Practice” by Nigel Penfold from North Devon Hawk Walks
Discover the history and ancient pastime of falconry, showing how it has been depicted in various media from ancient to modern times. Explore the physical differences and evolutionary processes of various hawks, falcons and eagles and learn about the practicalities of living with, training and hunting with birds of prey. The audience will also have the opportunity to meet some special guests at close quarters … a hawk and a barn owl!
