Exploring Place Through Stories, Walking and Drawing with the Coasts In Mind Team and artist Tricia Johnson.
Join us for a free creative heritage workshop that combines local history, gentle walking and observational drawing to explore how the Northam Burrows landscape has changed over time.
Using historical photographs, maps and stories as a starting point, we'll discover the connections between past and present before taking a guided walk through the local area. Along the way, participants will sketch, observe and reflect on the landscape, creating a personal visual record of the places explored.
No drawing experience is required. The session focuses on observation, creativity and enjoyment rather than artistic skill, and all materials will be provided.

Coasts in Mind (CiM) brings together coastal heritage, environmental change, and community knowledge through an interactive map https://cim.mola.org.uk/map. Our work is happening in 4 locations in the country including the Taw & Torridge estuary, North Devon.
We are running creative workshops, to encourage residents to reflect on changes to the local landscape. In collaboration with artist Tricia Johnson, we are inviting local residents to take part in Drawing the Changing Landscape, a creative heritage workshop that explores how the local environment has evolved over time.
This is a National Lottery Heritage fund project, with support from Lloyds Register Foundation.

10:00am Welcome and introductions
10:15am Explore historical photographs, maps and local stories
11:00am Introduction to observational drawing and sketchbook activity
11:30am Refreshment break
11:45am Guided walking in Northam Burrows CP and drawing session with stops at key locations
1:00pm Lunch break (bill from café will be covered by CiM team)
1:45pm Continue sketching and developing drawings
3:00pm Sharing reflections, drawings, observations and feedback
4:00pm Close

Accessibility: No previous artistic experience required. Activities can be adapted to suit different abilities and confidence levels. The walking route will require suitable footwear and weather appropriate clothing.
