Crediton Library is running an ongoing project to collect and preserve the social history of the town and surrounding area via an oral history reminiscence project.

Our volunteers will meet with people or groups interested in being interviewed, either in the library or in their own homes if they prefer or cannot travel. Many of our interviewees are elderly, but people of any age can be interviewed.

Volunteers will sit and carry out an informal chat with the interviewee, which is recorded in audio, either on supplied equipment or a smartphone or tablet used by the volunteer if they prefer. Interviews are then uploaded to the project website where they can be listened to by anyone interested.

We are also looking for people to transcribe recorded interviews, to make them more accessible to our audience. This can be done from home.

There are no set hours - a bank of volunteers take on interviews as is convenient.
