Are you passionate about adult literacy?
Read Easy UK is a national charity providing free, 1-to-1 and confidential help to adults in need of help with reading skills.
Do you have:
- Training and experience of teaching literacy?
- Knowledge of a range of teaching resources available to adults, or are willing to research them?
- Good communication and people skills?
- Time, energy and enthusiasm (approximately 3-4 hours each week)?
- A commitment to improving the lives of people who struggle to read?
Because of our successful growth into new areas, we have vacancies in Torridge, Tavistock/Okehampton and Exeter areas:
Volunteers with education backgrounds:
- a Coordinator to enrol and assess new readers, match them with coaches and support them both through the reading journey
- a Literacy Specialist to provide expert guidance to volunteer coaches and the Coordinator to create and maintain a “resources box”
Volunteers from any background:
- a Reader Connector (any background), to provide ad hoc help to the Coordinator and help with networking with local organisations
- coaches to work directly with people in need of help with their literacy skills (training will be provided). You must be able to reliably spare two separate hours each week.
What will you get out of it? You’ll:
- meet and work collaboratively with new people;
- be active and engaged, adding value to your community;
- positively help change lives and open up new possibilities for people.
