Do you enjoy talking on the phone and/or texting? We are looking for volunteers to check in with people living with and affected by MND on a regular basis.

The MND Association was founded in 1979. Our mission is to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers. We also fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments and brings us closer to a cure for MND. The Association also campaigns and raises awareness so the needs of people with MND, and everyone who cares for them, are recognised, and addressed by wider society.

“Whether you want to get involved in caring, fundraising, awareness raising or campaigning, you won’t fail to be uplifted by this community. And you will soon find yourself making a difference, even if it’s just in small steps. Every step is pushing us towards better care and the ultimate goal, a cure.” David, Volunteer

What’s involved?

  • Make regular phone calls and / or texts to 'check in' on people to ask how they are
  • Update and refer any worries, concerns to the area support co-ordinator
  • Represent the MND Association and provide information about its services

This role will suit me if I:

  • Have a warm, friendly and empathetic manner
  • Have good listening and communications skills
  • Have an understanding of MND and its impact on families, or a willingness to learn
  • Understand the need for confidentiality and the importance of data protection

What’s in it for me?

  • Become part of a friendly and dedicated team
  • Get support from regional and national staff
  • Get access to a range of workshops and events

How flexible is the role?

This role fits in with your life as you see fit, calls can be scheduled daytime, evenings or weekends.

What sort of training/induction will I receive before starting?

You’ll be inducted into the role and informed about the Association. As part of this, you will receive e-learning, and mentoring. The training programme will also include experiential and reflective learning.
