Chairing Holsworthy’s Community Forum
Holsworthy and District Community Forum (HDCF) is a local partnership of statutory and voluntary services, working together to improve the life and wellbeing of the residents of Holsworthy and the surrounding parishes, using shared assets, resources and expertise. We are currently looking for a new Chairperson.
HDCF Chairperson’s role
The Chairperson’s role is to help identify areas of need in the community and to facilitate effective, partnerships to try and meet these needs, helping to improve the way that services are run and decisions are made
Responsibilities and Time Commitment:
Routine:
- To chair HDCF meetings 2 hours / 6 weeks
- To support the Community Developer (CD) to write the agendas 1 hour / month
- To review and circulate the minutes 2 hours / month
- To work with the CD on reports and plans 2 hours / 6 weeks
Other:
- To liaise with voluntary and statutory services
- To engage with the community (eg run survey, attend community events)
- To be a point of contact with One Northern Devon (OND) to share ideas / resources
- To advocate for Holsworthy and District

Person specification
•Ability to operate as an impartial Chair / facilitate (declaring any interests – may need to delegate a co-chair if unable to remain impartial for an item)
•Good knowledge of the local community Understanding and passion for community development
•Ability to plan and chair meetings effectively and achieve appropriate decisions
•Good facilitator – drawing out, and attending, to other people’s views and taking them into consideration when speaking/ making decisions
•Being open-minded – seeking ways to draw out the best from everyone in the One Town Community group
•Good people skills - with a wide range of differing personalities in different situations and positions
•Good listening and oral communication – making points clearly and sensitively in varying circumstances
•Appropriate writing styles - to meet a variety of different needs
•Emotionally intelligent – being able to build peaceful, effective relationships across disparate groups
•IT literate – across a range of programmes
•Being willing to learn and seek advice
•Willingness to travel - as required
