Black History Month 'Let's Celebrate Together!'
Barnstaple Library has teamed up with Rose Young-French to curate a day of interactive, fun & informative sessions celebrating this year's Black History Month theme “Standing Firm in Power and Pride.”
Rose says " Our 'Let's Celebrate Together!'occasion is an opportunity to showcase and highlight cultural diversity right here in North Devon. The day is for everyone in our community to celebrate together whilst enjoying the delights of Caribbean food served by much loved Monty's Caribbean Kitchen, Reggae roots music by local DJ and world renowned Graffiti artist Mau Mau plus learning cultural history in African dance with Rebecca Jeffery and we are delighted to introduce Fran Andre who will provide an immersive singing workshop."
There will also be children's activities, hair braiding, friendly conversation & information.
Rose is passionate about the work she does in her community, both through her freelance work and as part of Evolving Events Collective. She describes herself as a community activist, developing projects which help to encourage, support and amplify the voices in her community.
Black History Month seeks to highlight the profound contributions made by Black people be they leaders, activists, or pioneers who have shaped history, while also looking towards a future of continued empowerment, unity, and growth.
"We can't wait to see you so please bring your family and friends along to celebrate."
