A Survivor led CSA event for professionals

On 24th April 2025, I am thrilled to launch Focused Light at Exeter Phoenix, a unique event designed for professionals working in the childhood sexual abuse (CSA) space. This event provides an invaluable opportunity to engage in survivor-led discussions, gaining firsthand insights from individuals with lived experience and learning how their journeys inform service improvements, education, and advocacy.

Each speaker will share key aspects of their experiences, how they came to be, the steps they took to help others, and their unique perspectives. Through remarkable journeys, discoveries, and creative expressions, they aim not only to aid and inspire professionals but also to shine a light on the urgent need for education, survivor-informed services, and systemic improvements.

A Flexible, Insightful, and Action-Oriented Event

This event is not just about listening, it’s about action. We want to spark conversations that lead to better services, resources, and opportunities for survivors, ensuring they are truly heard, understood, and supported

To accommodate busy schedules, delegates will have the flexibility to dip in and out of the event, attending sessions that best suit their availability. Each talk will be followed by a Q&A session, allowing professionals to engage directly with speakers and gain practical takeaways to enhance their work in the sector.

We also encourage professionals to share this event with colleagues, other organisations, and on social media. Let’s create a buzz and ensure as many people as possible can benefit from these survivor-led discussions, helping to drive awareness, education, and positive change in the CSA space.

Inspiring Guest Speakers

We are delighted to confirm an incredible lineup of speakers, including:

  • Sophie Olson – Educator & Author of The Flying Child – A Cautionary Tale for Adults
  • Rees Mann – Founder of South African Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse (SAMSOSA) and mountain conqueror
  • John Slater – Co-Founder of MoMENtum
  • Josie Knight – Surviving Abuse Northern Devon CIC – SAND
  • Richard Green – Survivor and poet

About Focused Light

Focused Light is a creative space dedicated to fostering well-being and artistic expression through photography and other art forms. Working closely with MoMENtum Devon, our goal is to provide a safe and supportive space for survivors, particularly men, to heal and build resilience through art-based workshops. By harnessing the artistic talent within our community, we create new opportunities for individuals while ensuring collective benefit and professional collaboration. Through partnerships with professionals, we can expand the conversation around CSA recovery, advocate for trauma-informed practices, and develop more effective support services. While our initial focus is on male survivors, our long-term vision is to make this service available to all adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse.

Booking Information

We look forward to welcoming you and working together to create a more informed, compassionate, and effective childhood sexual abuse support system.
