Fun in the woods for young people identifying as female aged 12-16!
SisterWood is a registered charity that supports those who identify as female aged 12-16 with their mental wellbeing. We are in the process of getting our first pilot off the ground from 21st February, with 6 fully funded sessions held one day a week in the woods at Deer Leap Farm in Higher Ashton.
The intention with SisterWood is to co-create a toolbox young people can draw on to form a solid foundation for their mental wellbeing, blending forest school style practices with mindfulness based activities. During the sessions, young people learn practical skills and crafts using hand tools to build fires, dens and other nature connection activities, as well as learn mindfulness-based practices like yoga, breathwork, meditation, singing and dance among others. We'll cook lunch together using organic local ingredients as much as possible, giving the opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy a hearty nutritious meal together. There will be guest facilitators from the local area brought in to offer workshops, strengthening community connections and widening the circle of influence for the young people on the programme.
We are working with professionals from Early Help, CAMHS, social prescribers and GPs to arrange referrals of young people to the programme, and advise anyone thinking of applying or referring a young person to get in touch with Early Help to request a referral. You can also get in touch with me for any further questions!
