We provide a peer support group for younger people with a dementia and their carers and families.

The Young Ones is a support group for younger people with a diagnosis of dementia. The group was started by Lia Tucker and Tracey Aldridge when, as staff of the Alzheimer’s Society in Devon, they had become aware that there was no similar support group in the area. When a reduction in funding terminated the Alzheimer’s Society contract in Devon Lia and Tracey decided to keep the group on a voluntary basis, and The Young Ones came in to being in May 2023 as an independent support group. Since then, with the assistance of Becky Rawles who also worked for the Alzheimer’s Society, a Carers’ Support Group has also been created. Both groups meet monthly. In April 2024 The Young Ones was formalised as a CIC. It is financed by donations from the community in Teignmouth together with a small grant from Devon County Council.
