I am a private p.a / enabler. I also manage a small learning disability charity in Exeter.
I have been working in the social care sector for about 30 years, first as a qualified youth worker and then within wider community groups. I worked for Age Concern / Age Uk Exeter for 11 years for the sitting and escort / enabling service. I was also service manager for 'Tools Company' a special supported service within MeninSheds - until I was made redundant, following the pandemic. Since 2021 I have been working independently offering a p.a / enabling and support service that is totally designed to suit the needs and wishes of each individual person. I have experience of working with people who experience a range of physical challenges, including wheelchair users, people with visual impairments, physiological conditions, like Parkinson's and M.S as well as dementia, mental health issues and people of all ages and genders. I am pet friendly, except spiders, don't care if people smoke and don't judge people in any way. I don't know if it's relevant but I am male, 60 years old and gay. I have a fully up to date and checkable DBS and can also provide relevant and recent references. I am also fully insured to work with people including taking people out in my car. I also try to keep my skills up to date by accessing training when I can. I do not offer a personal care service (washing, bathing assistance, toileting etc) as I am not qualified or experienced to do this. I also keep my first aid training up to date.
