I am sharing this, to raise awareness of the stem programme.
STEM Ambassadors
The STEM Ambassador programme supports a network of volunteers to bring real-life examples of STEM careers into schools and colleges across the UK. They help to break stereotypes and offer engaging activities to inspire the next generation into the infinite possibilities of STEM pathways. There are lots of different ways that STEM Ambassadors can support schools and young people; they can act as mentors encouraging students to raise their aspirations, or host stands at careers fairs promoting lesser-known career pathways, or they can support classroom teaching with a short talk about where curriculum teaching links to real-world applications.
All STEM Ambassadors are required to complete some training and an introduction to child safeguarding. STEM Ambassadors are also DBS checked by STEM Learning, this comes at no cost to the volunteer. Once approved as a STEM Ambassador, volunteers have access to a wide range of resources and support, as well as requests from schools. They can then choose to offer support to school requests, perhaps assisting with a single lesson, or a longer day event if the school has anything planned.
The STEM Ambassador programme is funded by UKRI, and run by STEM Learning, with regional support provided by local delivery partners. The local delivery partner for the South West is Graphic Science.
