Hi - I’m Laura, founder and main admin of the South Devon Players Theatre & Film Company, Brixham.
We are a nationally and internationally award-winning theatre company specialising in shows based on researched history and adaptations of classical literature (performed in Devon and streamed worldwide online).
Over the coming autumn and winter I’m happy to book in a limited number of talks and workshops for local community organisations in and around Torbay.
These are on a pay-what-you-can donation basis as fundraising towards hiring rehearsal space for our actors.
I offer a variety of talks & workshops on any of the subjects below or a variation depending on what is relevant for your group. These can generally run half an hour to an hour with Q&A time included.
Talks
- Founding and running a theatre company in Torbay (our history and projects and how it comes together)
- Adapting historical research or literature for the stage
- The challenges and great times of creating a theatre company when you’re both female - in a traditionally male role - and autistic.
- The process of creating a theatre show
- The process of creating your character for stage.
Workshops (these are participatory, for one hour)
- Characterisation for stage
- Adapting a page of script for stage
- What you need to do to become a professional actor
- Audition skills
If there are other related topics you would be interested in, please do ask.
Please bear in mind bookings will be dependent on availability around the commitments of rehearsal and show times as well as other acting commitments.
All bookings made will be honoured and communicated with my acting agent to avoid any clashes with anything they have lined up for me.
If you’d like to discuss any of the above further, do drop me an email on southdevonplayers@gmail.com
