Position. Trustee
Location: 1st Chivenor Scout Group, Braunton.

Role Overview: As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in guiding our Scout Group. Support our leaders, and ensure we meet our goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:

Governance and Compliance:
Ensure the Scout Group is run in line with The Scout Association’s policies, rules, and legal requirements—including charity law. -
Financial Oversight:
Approve and monitor budgets and help to manage group funds responsibly. -
Strategic Planning:
Help shape the vision and direction of the Scout Group, making decisions on long-term development, growth, and sustainability. -
Supporting Volunteers:
Work closely with the Group Leader Volunteer and other volunteers, offering support and guidance to help deliver a safe, high-quality programme for young people. -
Risk Management:
Identify and manage risks (such as safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people and volunteers. -
Resource Management:
Oversee the effective use of resources—including buildings, equipment, and fundraising—to maximize the impact on Scouting activities. -
Advocacy and Representation:
Act as an ambassador for Scouting in your community, promoting the values and benefits of Scouting and helping to recruit new volunteers and supporters.
Essential Requirements
- Age: You must be at least 18 years old.
- Eligibility: You must be eligible to act as a charity trustee under UK law (e.g., not disqualified due to bankruptcy or certain criminal convictions).
- Disclosure Check: You will need to undergo a criminal record check to ensure the safety of young people.
- Willingness to accept the Trustee Role: You must understand and accept the responsibilities and legal duties of a trustee as set out by The Scout Association and charity law.
Skills and Qualities
- Commitment: Willingness to devote time and effort to the role.
- Teamwork: Ability to work as part of a team.
- Integrity and Fairness: Acting in the best interests of the group and upholding Scouting values.
- Basic Financial Understanding: Useful for understanding budgets and accounts, but not mandatory.
